English
This rich and engaging English Language Arts course is designed to help learners strengthen their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Through a balanced literacy approach, students explore a variety of texts, build vocabulary, learn foundational grammar, and develop confidence in expressing their ideas.
Reading instruction includes a wide range of genres—such as realistic fiction, folktales, biographies, informational texts, and simple poetry. Students practice reading fluently with accuracy, pacing, and expression. Comprehension strategies are taught explicitly, helping students identify the main idea, recall details, make inferences, ask questions, and summarize what they’ve read. Lessons are designed to help students connect text to their own lives, other texts, and the world around them.
Vocabulary development is embedded in all areas of instruction, helping students learn new words through context and usage. Grammar lessons include parts of speech, sentence structure, punctuation, and capitalization. Students learn to identify and use nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, and contractions correctly in their writing.
Writing is a major component of this course. Students write across genres—including personal narratives, descriptive stories, opinion pieces, and informative reports. They learn how to organize their ideas with clear beginnings, middles, and endings. They revise their work for clarity, grammar, and style, while developing handwriting, spelling, and editing skills.
Listening and speaking skills are strengthened through classroom discussions, partner reading, storytelling, and oral presentations. Students learn to express themselves clearly, listen actively, and respect the ideas of others.
By the end of the course, learners are not only reading and writing independently—they are also gaining the tools to think critically, communicate effectively, and enjoy the power of language.
