Mathematics
This engaging and hands-on math course builds a strong foundation in number sense, operations, and logical thinking. Learners develop mathematical confidence as they explore numbers, solve real-life problems, and discover patterns and relationships in the world around them.
The course begins by strengthening students’ understanding of place value. They learn to read, write, and compare numbers into the hundreds and understand how digits represent hundreds, tens, and ones. Using visual aids and manipulatives like base-ten blocks and number lines, students explore strategies for addition and subtraction—including regrouping, mental math, and estimation.
Students are introduced to the foundational concepts of multiplication and division through the use of groups, arrays, and repeated addition or subtraction. These early experiences help them develop a deeper understanding of how numbers work together and lay the groundwork for future math success.
Measurement skills are developed through real-world applications. Students learn to measure length in inches and centimeters, compare weights, estimate temperature, and tell time to the nearest five minutes. They also explore money, learning to count coins and bills and solve problems involving purchases and change.
Geometry introduces learners to 2D and 3D shapes, lines, angles, symmetry, and spatial reasoning. Through activities such as drawing, building, and sorting, students understand how shapes are formed and how they relate to one another.
Data and graphing activities allow students to collect, organize, and interpret information using bar graphs, pictographs, and charts. They learn to analyze data and communicate their findings clearly.
Problem-solving is woven throughout the curriculum, encouraging students to apply their knowledge in meaningful contexts. Math stories, games, and challenges help build perseverance, logical reasoning, and a positive attitude toward mathematics.
By the end of the course, learners are equipped with essential math skills and the confidence to use them in everyday situations.
